What is a Mahram in Islam?

A Mahram (or Mehram) is a person with whom marriage is permanently prohibited in Islam due to close blood relationship, foster relationship, or marriage. Mahrams of a woman are those men she cannot marry, and she does not need to observe hijab in front of them.
